Shute Shield: Super Rugby players will change dynamic says Gordon coach ahead of Randwick clash

His team is sitting in top spot but Gordon coach Darren Coleman said there is good reason he needs to be alert for potential changes to the rankings in upcoming weeks.

He might be leading the only undefeated team in the Shute Shield but cautious Gordon coach Darren Coleman said any one of eight teams are still in the running to win the comp this year.

Coleman, who has been trying to deflect the favourites tag since the opening game of the season said the competition in 2020 is so tight that with six games to play more than half the teams playing can still win.

And a few slip-ups could see teams tumbling down the ladder and positions reversed as more Super Rugby players return to the fold from their clubs.

“We are happy to be where we are with six wins and six bonus points,” Coleman said.

“Now we have to stay in the top six, you drop two in a row and you could be out of the six pretty quick.

“It’s really tight. Any of the eight could win - you can’t rule Warringah and Easts out yet.

“When the Super Rugby players come back it could completely change the dynamic. Change weaknesses in a team into strengths, so things could really chance.”

Gordon has the potential to have Karmichael Hunt, Joey Walton and Jack Dempsey back in the side from the Waratahs bubble in upcoming weeks.

“It would offset a few injuries for sure,” Coleman said.

Gordon take on Randwick in a top-of-the-tables clash this Saturday with the Galloping Greens coming into the match fired up after their two point loss to Eastwood last round.
