As omens go, this is a not a bad one.
A week out from the Shute Shield grand final against Eastwood and Gordon already have plenty to celebrate.
While Gordon are now into their first grand final since 1998, their third grade side and 2nd Colts teams have triggered early celebrations at the club.
Gordon claimed the third grade decider 29-24 over Sydney University in extra time at Forshaw Park on Saturday and the 2nd Colts a 23-13 win over Randwicks to kick off early celebrations at the club
Not it’s up to Darren Coleman and his men to finish things off as they bid to add the Shute Shield to the minor premiership and Sir Roden Cutler Shield club championship already in the bag.
On Saturday Gordon beat Eastern Suburbs 28-19 to book their spot in a Shute Shield grand final for the first time since 1998.
On Sunday in wet and wild conditions, Eastwood survived a torrid 100 minute extra time tussle with Northern Suburbs to secure their spot in the decider with a 12-9 win.
In 1998, Gordon defeated Norths 40-17 for the Shute Shield crown with coach Darren Coleman hopeful all his players will be given a clean bill of health for the 2020 edition of the Shute Shield decider.
“We think they are all OK,’’ he said on Sunday.
“One or two we will check on but I’m relatively positive.’’
Easts coach Pauli Taumoepeau said his side simply made too many errors to win the elimination final against Gordon on Saturday.
“We made too many errors at crucial moments, there was one opportunity we generally didn’t take but outside the last six minutes there was a lot of opportunities and time to make up for it,” he said.
The decider will be played at Leichhardt Oval on October 31.
GORDON 28 (A Tuimalealiifano 2, J Dempsey, J Walton tries; R Iona con, 2 pen goal) defeated EASTS 19 (R Woolf try; D Donato con, pen goal)
