If things had been a little different Patrick Flottmann might have been batting up rather than defending for one of Australia’s top football teams.
The Sydney FC player admitted as a child it was cricket that was his life. Until he missed a rep selection at age eight.
“I was really annoyed at it,” said the young footballer who after a stint playing in Thailand is now in the Sky Blue uniform of Sydney FC.

“I just put everything into football after that and I love it.
“One of the things I like about football is it puts a smile on peoples faces, brings people together. It’s my happy place.”
Earlier this month the sport gave Flottmann one of his best ever moments when the centre back made his debut for Sydney FC in the A-League.
“I went on and it was the best two minutes of my life,” said the West Pymble 22-year-old who over the years has played with West Pymble, the Northern Tigers, Manly United and Blacktown City.

“You don’t remember that much. And it was quick but it felt like it went on forever.
“I was a little nervous but I was really focused and ready to do the job.
“Afterwards it was a really proud moment and my mum and dad and my girlfriend were all there.
“They come to every game just in case.”
Flottmann said his goal for the rest of the season is to get more time with Sydney FC.
“I just have to keep working hard at it and hope it pays off,’’ he said.
