A near-perfect end to 2017 has the Hornsby Nalas women’s rugby sevens team ready for a happy and successful new year.
The Nalas finished their inaugural season by claiming the plate final of the Blue Mountains Sevens competition.
After displaying some consistent rugby throughout their pool games, a tough semi-final loss relegated Hornsby to the playoff for the secondary silverware against Mitchell Sevens.
The Nalas took control early through their defensive intensity, forcing multiple handling errors to help them to a 12-0 halftime lead.
Hornsby then ran away with the contest in the second, shutting out their opponents and claiming the Plate with a 22-0 victory.
“It definitely felt like we were building towards something throughout the day,” Hornsby captain Alex Bellamy said.
“Each game we were improving as a unit and lifting for each other. When the ref called time in the final, it really felt like validation for the team’s year of hard work.
“With new players getting some rugby under their belts in our last few games, we are really building as a team.
“It’s exciting to think where this can take us in year two.”
