Hornsby Ku-ring-gai police work includes the rescue of a hiker, investigating assaults and break-ins
Hornsby police are investigating thefts and warning walkers to be prepared after four hikers recently needed to be rescued from local bushland.

Berowra
A 29-year-old hiker was rescued on Friday night after he got lost on his return trip from Berowra to Crosslands reserve. About 6pm he called 000 saying he was lost, with an injured foot. Police crews began searching the Benowie walking trail and a Polair helicopter was called to lead ground crews. The hiker was found 500 metres from the nearest walking trail. Hornsby Police said this is the fourth rescue in four weeks and urged walkers to plan their trips properly by having adequate supplies, enough time to complete the walk in daylight and notifying someone of where they are walking.
Pennant Hills
An 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault on Thursday last week following an alleged altercation at Pennant Hills train station last month. Just before midnight on Saturday July 9 a man who dropped his friends off at Pennant Hills station on Ramsey Rd was approached by an 18-year-old and a group of youths, who asked for a lift. After the offer was declined, the 18-year-old allegedly grabbed the victim, and youths including the 18 year old then allegedly punched and kicked him. On Thursday July 28, the 18 year old was arrested, charged and given conditional bail to appear in Burwood local court on August 25.
Berowra Heights
Three cars were severely damaged by a 23-year-old man who allegedly admitted to drink driving on Woodcourt Rd about 2.30am on Saturday. A Holden Commodore believed to be travelling at significant speed appears to have lost control and hit two parked cars — a Nissan and another commodore. The man walked away and returned an hour later when the owner of one of the damaged cars saw him and called police. The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries and police will wait for results of a blood test before laying charges.

A hammer appears to have been used to smash a few dents into a Holden station wagon parked on College Cres between 9pm and 10pm on Thursday.
Mt Colah
An older style oven, dishwasher and benchtops were stolen from a home on the Pacific Hwy between Tuesday July 5 and Monday August 1. The owner bought the home next to a line of vacant houses due for demolition and development about two weeks before it was broken into via a smashed window.
Cowan
A 32-year-old man was allegedly caught riding his Kawasaki 600 at 135km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Pacific Highway about 12.25pm on Sunday. The rider’s international licence was suspended, his registration cancelled and numberplates seized.

There were a dozen homes broken into across the Hornsby LAC between July 25 and Monday August 1. Police urge residents to lock their homes and report anyone acting suspiciously to police.
Berowra Heights
A 24-year-old woman was cut from her car by Fire and Rescue crews following a collision with a school minibus in Porters Rd Kenthurst on Friday. The 57 year-old driver of the minibus, from Berowra Heights, was not injured but the Holden Barina driver was trapped for about an hour. She was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition. Police fined both drivers.

A $3500 black Trek mountain bike was stolen from a garage at a townhouse in Albert St between 5.30pm on Monday and 8.15am on Tuesday.
