CONSTRUCTION at Cherrybrook Village is driving rats out to public thoroughfares and startling shoppers.
Customers have reported seeing oversized rats scurrying near Caltex service station since last month when works for the centre’s $36.9 million redevelopment started.
A shopper said she visited the station last week and saw four large rats darting around near the entrance.
Stage one of the redevelopment includes a new entry to the Shepherds Drive centre.
A Cherrybrook Village spokeswoman said an inspection this week revealed a “minor rats’ nest” on the border of the centre’s basement carpark and Greenway Park away from “a customer-accessible area”.
“Cherrybrook Village has not had any incidents or customer complaints regarding pests at the centre and this continues to be the case,’’ the spokeswoman said.
“We follow the standards of the NSW Health Code of Conduct and are compliant with regular pest control inspections.
“However, during our daily diligent routine cleaning inspection this week, there was a minor rats’ nest found in the external boundary of the centre that was dealt with immediately.”
Stage one upgrades at the Mirvac-owned centre are due to be complete in August.
Other changes include and Aldi supermarket, medical centre, gym and larger carpark.
