Nathan Russell charged with possessing cocaine, amphetamines

A Chatswood man was allegedly caught with cocaine and amphetamines. See how the courts are attempting to aid him.

A Chatswood man has not entered any pleas after he was charged with having cocaine and amphetamines.

Nathan Russell, 37, is facing two counts of possessing a prohibited drug at Chatswood.

Police will allege Russell was found with 0.08 grams of cocaine and 0.2 grams of amphetamines on February 25.

Russell faced Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday (April 5).

The matter was adjourned so he could complete the Magistrates Early Referral into Treatment (MERIT) program.

The MERIT program allows people who are suffering from substance addiction to access support and treatment services for 12 weeks as their matter is adjourned.

According to Local Court NSW, The MERIT team works with alleged offenders to “provide the best treatment and support”, including counselling, welfare support, opioid substitution therapy.

When Russell has finished the MERIT program, the magistrate will re-hear his matter, which was adjourned to April 26 for mention at Hornsby Local Court.
