Emergency services raced to treat a motorbike rider following a horror truck crash in Thornleigh on Tuesday morning, forcing doctors to perform urgent blood transfusions at the scene.
It is believed the motorcyclist and truck collided on Pennant Hills Rd at about 9.30am.
The man 41, was treated at the scene by CareFlight doctors before being rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital by road ambulance in a critical condition.
The man suffered injuries to his pelvis and lower limbs.
The road was closed off by police as a CareFlight helicopter performed ‘hot-loading’ of the specialist doctor and an ambulance paramedic.
It meant the rotors of the helicopter continued spinning to clear the busy scene.
