It will be a long-awaited homecoming for boxer Kaye Scott this weekend as the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist fights in Hornsby for the first time since her debut.
The Wahroonga resident will be taking part in Saturday’s Fight Night event at PCYC Hornsby.
“There hasn’t been a Fight Night event in Hornsby since my first fight about eight years ago,” Scott said.
“It will be a big difference for the boxing fans in the area as they normally have to travel out west to watch a live event.”
Scott heads into her second fight of the year on the back of a very strong 2018, which included a bronze medal performance at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
“Overall it was a pretty successful year,” the 34-year-old said.
“After the Comm Games I made the top eight at the worlds in India.
“It was a pretty good performance to make it to the quarterfinals but I really wanted to make the top four.
“I didn’t quite achieve that but I’m happy with how I fought.”
With the 2020 Olympic Games on the horizon, Scott said that the hard work was only just beginning.
“I’ve got a very busy year ahead,” she said.
“I’m going to New Zealand next week to compete in the three-day Super 8s tournament. After that, I’m leaving the next day to go for a two week training camp in the USA.
“Then I’ve got a big rest of the year to prepare for 2020.”
