Grand final day on Saturday was extra sweet for Hornsby District Softball Association when it celebrated four players earning selection into this year’s junior Australian squads.

Gisele Petalio Conte, 13, Annalise Kemp, 15, Teoni Lamb, 16, and Jorja Barrett, 18, earned national selection after impressing at last month’s junior regional and national competitions.

“I am extremely proud that four of our Hornsby representatives have been selected to represent our country,” association president Paige Hyslop said.

“It is such a great honour for them to be recognised as one of the best players in their age group in Australia. Their achievements are a great way to highlight the pathway that can be taken by other players in our association.

Jorja will be representing Australia in the Junior Women’s Softball World Championships.

“They are great role models in our association and we are proud to follow their journey here and overseas. We hope it encourages other players in our area to play a great sport with many opportunities to represent their country.”

For Jorja, who will travel to California in August to represent Australia in the Junior Women’s Softball World Championships, pulling on the green and gold will be a dream come true.

“To represent Australia at a Junior World Championships has been a goal of mine since starting softball,” she said. “I’m really excited and keen to play against some of the world’s best teams.”
