A man accused of allegedly failing to care for an elderly man – who died from serious burns – has pleaded not guilty.

Jie Peng, 65, was charged with refusing to provide necessities of life endanger life (domestic violence).

It’s alleged Peng failed to provide care to the 93-year-old man, who was taken to hospital in a critical, “unresponsive” condition on May 31, 2022 after emergency services were called to a Hornsby address.

The man died four days later in hospital.

Peng faced Hornsby Local Court on May 10 with two support people and told media outside court he was not guilty and had provided adequate care for the elderly man.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Parkin said it was a “complex” matter and medical material was needed to proceed the case.

Peng’s matter was adjourned for mention on May 23 at Hornsby Local Court.
