Drunk man suffers severe head injury in fall at Asquith carpark

An intoxicated man who fell over and hit his head in the carpark of Coles Asquith has suffered severe head injuries and remains in a serious condition in hospital.

An intoxicated man who fell over and hit his head in the carpark of Coles Asquith has suffered severe head injuries and remains in a serious condition in hospital.

The incident happened about 4pm on Monday.

Ku-ring-gai police said the 49-year-old Asquith man had been refused service at a liquor outlet after staff found him laying on the floor of the store.

He was helped out of the store and witnesses said he lay down in a garden bed.

Police found members of the public helping the man when they arrived.

While police were speaking to the man — who appeared heavily intoxicated — he took several steps backwards before falling over and hitting his head on the ground.

He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital and suffered bleeding on the brain and a skull fracture, police said.

The hospital confirmed he was in a serious but stable condition today.

A critical incident investigation team from Nepean police is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
