A hairdresser on Sydney’s leafy upper north shore has seen his charges of sexual misconduct and assault grow as new alleged victims come forward.
Anthony Castelnuovo, 69, was arrested in November and charged with sexually touch another person without consent and intentionally sexually touch child (between 10 and 16 years).
On Thursday, the number of charges had ballooned into 28 separate allegations of sexual misconduct or assault across a 40 year time span — from 1981 to 2021
The allegations were mentioned at Downing Centre Local Court. Castelnuovo is yet to enter any pleas.
Police will allege Castelnuovo first committed an act of indecent sexual assault in 1981 and continued his litany of sexual offences over a 40 year span — until November of last year.
The 28 charges include four counts of sexually touching a child, aged between 10 and 16 years, and three counts of sexually assaulting a minor.
In one of these cases, police allege in court documents previously tendered to Hornsby Local Court that Castelnuovo rubbed his penis on the underage victim’s body.
Castelnuovo also faces 16 counts of allegedly sexually touching people without their consent and five counts of indecent assault.
The court heard on Thursday that Castelnuovo’s case was ready to proceed to a 12-day hearing.
The list of witnesses has been whittled down from 41 to 28, including three police witnesses, the court heard.
Castelnuovo’s hearing is scheduled to begin in May 2023.
