Construction is set to start on multimillion-dollar plans by property developer Jean Nassif’s Toplace, transforming once rural land into a shopping and residential precinct expected to rival Rouse Hill Town Centre.
Toplace has showcased a sneak peek of its vision for Box Hill City Centre, at the corner of Terry and Mason roads, Box Hill, which will start construction early next year.
A total of 682 residential apartments and more than 19,000sq m of retail and commercial space will be built at the site, expected to include a major supermarket chain, medical centre, fresh food precinct, fast food options and a health and wellness precinct.
A Toplace spokeswoman said the Box Hill City Centre will be the largest shopping centre in the area.
“Businesses will be exposed to strong visitor rates, and a retail expenditure capacity of $943 million by 2031, driven by a rapidly growing local population,” the spokeswoman said.
“Limited competition in the region offers unmatched opportunity for retailers to succeed in Box Hill, and continue to grow as the north West Growth Area continues to expand.”
Toplace anticipate the city centre to accommodate more than 12,000 residents.
“The large number of young families in the area will boost the long term prospects of Box Hill City Centre, with a high portion of couples living with dependent children,” the spokeswoman said.
“A key objective of the Box Hill Growth Precinct is to create strong pedestrian, public transport, cycleways and vehicular links.
“This aspect of Box Hill’s town plan will ensure convenient access to and from Box Hill City Centre.”
A completion date for the multimillion-dollar project will rely on the start of construction, according to the spokeswoman.
