Legendary Australian rock band The Angels have been trawling through their extensive discography for a new tour featuring songs rarely performed live.
The 4x4 Across Australia tour, which begins in March, will see the band play four songs from four records, with the setlist to change each concert.
The Angels began as the Moonshine Jug and String Band in Adelaide in 1970, led by brothers John and Rick Brewster, before the band changed its name to The Keystone Angels in 1974.
In 1976 the band became simply The Angels, with John on rhythm guitar and vocals, Rick on lead guitar and vocals, and Bernard “Doc” Neeson on lead vocals and guitar.
With John and Rick now joined by vocalist Dave Gleeson, drummer Nick Norton and John’s son Sam on bass guitar, The Angels has continued to tour across the country for more than three decades.
With 13 albums, most recently 2014’s Talk the Talk, choosing the setlist from the iconic back catalogue will be no easy task.
“The thing for us is that we’ve got so many songs that we’ve written and that people love so much that it’s always difficult to know … what you leave out,” John said.
“So 4x4 is about bringing in some things that we don’t normally play and it will probably change night to night.”
However, fans can also rest assured that the band’s most popular songs will not be forgotten.
“There will be songs that people … come to see us and hear us do, they’ll still be there, but there will be songs that we don’t normally play live as well,” John said.
“It is an amazing privilege that we have that we’re still so popular and we play different kinds of tours.”
The Angels will perform at the Australian Hotel and Brewery in Rouse Hill on Friday, March 17, from 8.39pm.
