He said the $70,000 grant was being awarded to the Hills Shire Council to help deter vandalism and crime, and it was being funded under the Federal Government’s Safer Communities Fund.

“This is a big win for us and will mean that less money needs to be spent on repairing vandalism.”

He said The Hills police would also have the evidence they need to prosecute vandals.

Kellyville Kolts Soccer Club president Bob Harrold said he was rapt to hear the two synthetic fields at Bernie Mullane would now be under surveillance.

He said the club had about 1500 members and used the facilities every day of the week.

“It means we can leave the fields set up more frequently knowing they are under surveillance and not subject to vandalism.”

He added they currently packed up all the fields each time they used them and they had experienced vandalism in the past.

Mr Harrold said they also had some new facilities which would benefit from having CCTV surveillance, such as their new storage room and training room.

Hills Shire Mayor Michelle Byrne welcomed the announcement.

“We have seen some really positive results with the use of CCTV cameras in The Hills and we know they act as a serious deterrent to criminals or anyone carrying out illegal activities or anti-social behaviour.”
