One of Sydney’s most popular and award-winning suburban pubs has just sold for $25m.

The Duke of Dural Hotel, in the city’s northwest, was snapped up by the hospitality group, Good Beer Company, better known for its inner city pubs.

Former owner of The Duke, Momento Hospitality, said it wanted to offload the relatively small pub, which opened in 2020, so it could concentrate on its larger venues across western Sydney.

Momento, owned by the Colisimo family, now has eight hotels in its stable, including one of the biggest pubs in the state, the $50m, three-level Oran Park Hotel, which opened in April.

It also has the Bella Vista Hotel, the Hudson Hotel at Seven Hills and The Governor in Macquarie Park. The group also has The Nags Head at inner-city Glebe.

In 2022, The Duke was named Metropolitan Hotel of the Year at the Australian Hotel Association (AHA) NSW Awards for Excellence. It also picked up the Best Bistro (Metro) gong at the 2024 National AHA Awards.

The Duke also has 30 poker machines and has approval to open until 2am.

It recently received planning permission for a first-floor bar with outdoor dining.

Momento CEO David Clifton told the Australian Hotelier website that selling The Duke, in the Dural town centre on Kenthurst Rd, would allow the group to focus on its larger venues.

“Momento Hospitality has made the strategic decision to divest from The Duke Hotel as part of our ongoing focus on expanding and operating large-format, community-driven venues across western Sydney,” Mr Clifton said.

“The Duke has played a proud role in the local community, earning a reputation for exceptional food and beverage, a welcoming atmosphere, and a strong connection with its guests.”

The pub has now joined The Edinburgh Castle and Hotel Coronation, in the Sydney CBD, The KB (Keg & Brew) at Surry Hills and the The Harold at Forest Lodge, under the Good Beer Company umbrella.

Good Company owner John Azar said The Duke had “enormous untapped potential”.

“Expect a major uplift across the board, from elevated food and beverage offerings to a renewed focus on service, community, and experience,” he said.

“We believe the Duke of Dural is ready for its next chapter, under our expertise — and it’s going to be a big one.”
