A bold vision for a sustainable healthcare hub in the heart of Norwest is one step closer to becoming a reality.
Developer Mulpha has started construction of “The Bond” — the first of three planned healthcare and commercial buildings located on the corner of Elizabeth Macarthur Dr and Norbrik Dr, Norwest.
When complete, the buildings will support the adjacent Norwest Private Hospital by offering further health services.
Mulpha’s head of development Tim Spencer told The Hills Shire Times the development was a big step forward in the growth of Norwest as an eco-friendly strategic hub.
“Norwest is starting to gain momentum and come alive as a strategic centre,” he said. “We’re really excited about the next evolution of buildings (that are) coming to Norwest.”
Mr Spencer said the use of cross-laminated timber as well as traditional timber in The Bond served two key purposes.
“There are two reasons why we looked at using timber,” he said. “One is the sustainability side of timber and looking at reducing our carbon footprint, but equally important is the sense of wellness that people get from being (inside) a timber building.”
The next stage of the development — two more healthcare and commercial buildings situated on a 19,000 sqm lot — will also be built with sustainability in mind.
“With the next two buildings, we want to continue the march forwards in regards to having more sustainable construction … and reducing construction waste,” Mr Spencer said.
“That circular economy thought process is our next frontier, and these buildings will be all about that.”
Mr Spencer also said he was excited about the size of the development and believed the 19,000 sqm site would deliver “north of 1200 jobs”.
When complete, The Bond will feature retail stores on the ground floor, six storeys of commercial office and healthcare space, a childcare facility and basement carparking.
Some of the current tenants who have signed up include Genesis Oncology, a cancer treatment centre, as well as an IVF clinic and psychology provider.
The Bond is due to open its doors in 2023 and development applications will soon be lodged for the 19,000 sqm site which could be home to two new healthcare and commercial buildings.
