The Tesla “torque” was huge at Castle Towers last week when seven Tesla vehicles and their owners met at Castle Hill to recharge their batteries and say a huge thank you to Castle Towers centre manager Martin Ollis.
The shopping centre turned on three new High Power Wall Connectors, provided and installed by Tesla.
Eng Lee flies a helicopter and drives a Tesla Model S electric car and says he “loves the technology”.
He has driven his Tesla from his Dural home to Melbourne and says the smooth quiet ride “is just fantastic”.
Mr Lee said he wished all shopping centres would follow the QIC lead and install charging stations.
“I can come here, have dinner while the car charges,” he said.
Tesla really doesn’t need sales people the owners do a great job.
CareFlight helicopter pilot John Hoad is equally smitten by his Tesla, saying “it’s a wonderful driving experience”.
“It’s the only car you can buy that can have new features added after it leaves the showroom,” he said.
He said automatic parallel parking was downloaded to his car the other day during the night.
“I have never spent so much money on a car in my life but I am concerned about climate change and I think transport has to change. I think Tesla is showing that electric vehicles are the way to go.”
He hasn’t paid or petrol since buying his car last year and the supply at Castle Towers is free.
Mr Ollis said the electric car charging bays are available to any member of the public who wishes to use them.
“We’ve seen a significant rise recently in the number of electric cars visiting Castle Towers, and we’re happy to support this growing movement toward a more sustainable mode of powering cars.
“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to provide a central location for electric car drivers to recharge their vehicles while on the go in the Castle Hill area.”
The high power wall connectors are located in Castle Towers red car park (row 7, space B1) with best access via entry from Eric Felton St.
The location of the new Castle Towers charging bays has been automatically uploaded into Tesla in-car GPS systems.
The connectors provide 32 amperage of power translating to 138kms of charge an hour. The range of most models is around 500km.
The electric engine doesn’t have to rev to reach it’s maximum torque which in Tesla 90D is 0-100km/h in 4.4 secs and in P100DL is a very impressive 0-100km/h in 2.5 secs.
