Sydney Metro northwest: commuters to get sneak-peek at metro stations with free travel on May 26

Communters excited about the opening of the Sydney Metro northwest will have the opportunity for a sneak peek at the new and revitalised Metro stations across the new network on Sunday — with free travel between Tallawong Station and Chatswood.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and local representatives will officially open the new Metro network on Sunday, May 26, with services commencing from 11am.

Ms Berejiklian today announced the Metro would be offering free travel all day Sunday to showcase the new services through The Hills.

Tallawong Station, an open-cut station six metres below street level in the heart of Sydney€™s booming North-West, begins to take shape. When completed in 2019, Tallawong Station will include 1000 commuter car spaces, six bus bays, rank for nine taxis, 15 kiss and ride spaces, plus parking and storage for 45 bicycles.

Rouse Hill Station — which is on the four-kilometre elevated skytrain route on Sydney Metro's€™s Northwest alignment — is about 12 metres above ground. Commuters from the new Rouse Hill Station, on Sydney Metro's€™s Northwest alignment, will enjoy a 46-minute ride to Martin Place in the heart of the Sydney CBD.

“The Opal gates at all 13 North West Metro stations will be staying open all day, so there will be no need for customers to tap on and off,” she said.

“This will allow even more people to bring their family and friends to Sydney’s North West to check out the turn-up-and-go service which will be running every four minutes during the peak.”

Transport Minister Andrew Constance said the last Metro train will leave Chatswood at 10.05pm and Tallawong at 9.35pm.

“We expect large crowds to come and see this amazing feat of engineering so we ask people to expect queues and large crowds, and spread their trips across the entire day,” Mr Constance said.

“There will be buses stationed around the network to support the Metro as we bed in the new service, and more than 150 staff working in the field across the northwest Metro line, at stations, roads and bus stops to help customers get around the network.”

Commuters travelling on other public transport from outside the area, or going beyond Chatswood on the Sydney Trains network will still need to tap on and off.

“So please remember your Opal card and don’t forget, on Sunday’s customers can travel anywhere on the Opal network for no more than $2.70 for an adult,” Mr Constance said.

The Hills Shire Times will showcase the Metro network in a special series on Sunday as stations are opened to the public.
