Twenty-five acres of cleared grassed pasture could soon be home to a state-of-the-art co-ed private school.
Development plans were recently lodged with the NSW Planning Department for Regis Education, Sports and Community Precinct — a proposed new private school with sports and community facilities at 127 Old Pitt Town Road.
The proposed location is in a semirural area that is undergoing marked redevelopment as part of The Gables, a $4 billion housing project that is set to transform Sydney’s booming north west.
The site sits on the southern border of The Gables — approximately 2.6 km north of Windsor Road, with access to Boundary Road (to the west) and Terry Road (to the east).
“The key objective of the proposed development is to respond to growing demand for educational facilities in the North West Growth Area,” planning documents state.
“The school will support the growth of the Box Hill and Gables communities … (by providing) essential infrastructure to meet the demands of the area’s growing population.”
This new education facility would accommodate 2,000 students, from Kindergarten to Year 12.
Planning documents state this facility would feature a childcare centre with 79 spaces, a Junior School (Kindergarten to Year 4), a Middle School (Years 5 to 8), and a Senior School (Years 9 to 12) designed for 1,000 students.
Planning documents also reveal there would be facilities used for extra-curricular activities and vocational training courses, such as a wellness and learning support centre, performing arts centre, hospitality building, visual arts building and STEM precinct.
The proposed school would also feature an impressive array of ‘state-of-the-art’ sporting facilities.
These include a main oval; seven tennis courts; a gymnasium with four basketball courts, a gymnastics studio and a dance studio; a swim centre with an Olympic-sized heated swimming pool as well as a specialised learners swimming pool; five outdoor netball and basketball courts; and eight all-purpose junior sports playing fields.
According to Regis Grammar’s website, the proposed development is for “a bold new co-ed school that will harness innovative technology to deliver an exceptional education”.
The school’s “state-of-the-art facilities” will be shared with “the whole community to experience and enjoy as a place of inclusivity and learning.”
Regis Grammar School have been approached for comment.
Pending approval from the Department of Planning and registration of the school with the NSW Education Standard Authority, Regis Grammar School plans to do a staged opening — starting with Kindergarten to Year 9 and then progressing to Years 10 through to 12.
If the development application is approved, Regis Grammar is expected to welcome its first students in 2023.
