COVID-19: Riverstone High School, Schofields Public School and Wyndham College reopen

Three schools at the centre of coronavirus outbreak in Sydney’s northwest have reopened today.

Three schools at the centre of coronavirus outbreak in Sydney’s northwest have reopened today.

On Wednesday NSW Health confirmed positive cases were linked to Wyndham College in Quakers Hill and Riverstone High School.

Schofield Public School was also closed pending the confirmation of a Covid-19 test.

Wyndham College Quakers Hill, Schofields Public School and Riverstone High School went through deep cleaning on Thursday and today reopened.

Close contacts linked to the positive cases at the schools are in self-isolation.

“The NSW Department of Education and NSW Health have been working closely to ensure the health and safety of all students and staff is maintained,” a statement read.

“This work has included identifying close contacts of the confirmed case and communicating directly with them regarding their requirement to self-isolate.”

Thirteen people were diagnosed with Covid-19 yesterday including four with no known source.

There are 22 active cases of coronavirus in The Hills shire with all having a known source.

There are nine active cases in the Blacktown local government area with two from an unknown source suggesting a level of community transmission.

NSW Health have identified The Hills for increased testing for coronvirus with the number of active cases in the region in double digits.

On Thursday Dr Kerry Chant from NSW Health called on communities in suburbs listed for increased testing to be vigilant for even the mildest symptoms.

“We want to call on the community to be particularly vigilant for signs and symptoms and identify chains of transmission,” she said.

“It takes a while for suburbs to be taken off the list because we know how stealthy the virus is, it can be transmitted in communities through the mildest of symptoms.”

Other local government areas targeted for increased testing include: Campbelltown, Canterbury Bankstown, the eastern parts of City of Sydney, Fairfield, Guilford, Hornsby, Liverpool, Merrylands (suburb), Parramatta and Woollahra.
