MAJOR changes to traffic flow on Showground Rd will take place from 11pm tonight.
Work is progressing on the $41 million Showground Road upgrade at Castle Hill to increase traffic capacity and improve travel times on the major road corridor.
A temporary lane has been created and all traffic will be moved onto the eastbound lane and road shoulder between Carrington Rd and Cecil Ave to allow the new westbound carriageway to be built.
This arrangement will remain in place until February next year with one lane of traffic maintained in each direction.
Castle Hill state Liberal MP Ray Williams said significant progress has been made since major
work started in May and significant changes to traffic conditions are required so widening work can continue.
“When complete the Showground Road upgrade will provide a minimum of two lanes in each direction between Carrington and Old Northern roads,” he said.
“Intersection modifications to Pennant St, Rowallan Ave and Kentwell/Cheriton Ave will improve traffic efficiency and access to residential areas.
“A widened Showground Road would also provide better access to Castle Towers shopping centre which is going to be expanded to form one of the largest shopping centres in Sydney.”
