MOTORISTS have voted Green Rd at Castle Hill as “the region’s worst”.

More than 25 per cent of readers voted for Green Rd, closely followed by Samantha Riley Drive at Kellyville and Norwest Blvd.

Castle Hill resident Craig Allison said though the timing and cost blowouts made Samantha Riley Drive a contester for the title, Green and Kings roads were a daily debacle.
“To travel from Green Rd to the Castle Hill CBD should take eight to 10 minutes. However, motorists are stuck in gridlock for at least 30 minutes on most mornings,” he said.
Kellyville, Castle Hill and West Pennant Hills had the most number of roads elected in the reader survey, with motorist Daniel Scott revealing he has had a spate of issues with his car’s suspension “due to the condition of Samantha Riley Drive” and claimed traffic in Green Rd made Castle Hill “impossible to live in”.

Cr De Masi said the council should rally local state MPs to act on continuing to upgrade arterial roads that cause the congestion of local streets.
Labor councillor Tony Hay said the traffic light system needed to be remodelled and synchronised.
A council spokeswoman said congestion in Green Rd was created by the Showground Rd intersection.
“It can take up to five traffic signal cycles for motorists to clear Green Rd during that peak demand,” she said. “Council is investigating options to provide an additional southbound lane on Green Rd, but this lane would primarily service buses that are held up in the traffic queue.
“The RMS are separately investigating an upgrade to the Showground and Green roads intersection as part of the projected increase in demand for motorists to access the new Metro North rail station in Carrington Rd.”
