SAMANTHA Riley Drive sparks outrage from countless residents across the shire, yet its completion seems nowhere in sight.
Kellyville resident and former Ausgrid engineer John Dowsett has called on The Hills Shire Council to get on with the job of fixing “the nightmare of the entire community”.
“This road has been a major concern of Hills residents for at least four years,” Mr Dowsett said. “My main concerns are the pedestrian access, congestion and a complete lack of safety.
“If nothing is done to complete work on this road, it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.”
Mr Dowsett said it was clear several stages needed to be completed but the council should release tenders as soon as possible in an effort to work simultaneously to finish the upgrade sooner.
“Council has proposed extra work for a three-way bridge at the intersection of Glenhaven and Green roads,” he said. “Which could add at least another two years onto what has already been a blown-out timeline.
“Residents are fed up. We know work needs to be done, cables need to be upgraded, the hill between Foxall and Hezlett roads needs to be removed and obviously, the removal of the power poles in the middle of the road.”
A council spokeswoman said it was working with Endeavour Energy for final approval to underground the power and remove the power poles.
“Approval is expected in the coming weeks,” she said.
“The time frame for completion will ultimately be determined by the tender response.”
An Endeavour Energy spokesman said responsibility for relocation of power poles in Samantha Riley Drive rested with the council and its contractors.
“Because of the time taken to receive a compliant design, we contacted council and their contractor in December 2017 to follow up on progress and offer Endeavour Energy’s assistance,” the spokesman said.
“Despite following up on multiple occasions, Endeavour Energy is yet to receive council’s design for the relocation.”
