Commuters taking up crucial parking spaces on Carmen Dr, Carlingford, have crippled small businesses for several years — but a successful campaign for more parking is set to fix the problem.

Two years after small business owners along the congested stretch of road called for public support in a petition to Parramatta Council, their pleas have been answered with construction set to commence on 23 new short-term parking spaces.

Liberal North Rocks Ward Councillor Andrew Jefferies said the addition of 23 new short-term parking spaces at Carmen Drive will improve access to all the local shops and businesses, as well as a new children’s playground and amenities facility.

“This is a much needed upgrade and one that our community has been asking to have delivered for many, many years,” he said.

“It’s fantastic that we’ve finally settled upon the design and to have construction works commence in May.”

Steve’s Fine Meats owner Steve Rosevear said he was glad the 15-year hiatus had come to an end.

“Council have finally come good on their promise for a carpark,” Mr Rosevear told the Times.

“The state government have yet to come to their promise for commuter parking — with 230 spots promised several years ago — but there is no where for them to put the parking.

“I applaud what council have done, but the state government have let businesses and residents down because the streets are very congested and dangerous.”
