NSW Food Authority name and shame North west Sydney’s worst food safety offenders

The NSW Food Authority has revealed a long list of businesses they have named and shamed for breaching food safety across Sydney’s north west.

Popular food outlets across Sydney's northwest have been hit with a series of food safety penalties by the NSW Food Authority, with major chains including Hungry Jacks and Sushi Hub issued with several offences.

Some of the major offences, which resulted in penalties for several business included some restaurants, fast food chains, takeaways and even growers markets, included failing to prevent the contamination of food and failing to store potentially hazardous foods under temperature controls.

A shortlist of the worst offenders across north west Sydney included a popular Hungry Jacks and Hot Star Fried Chicken in Hornsby, Sushi Hub in Richmond and Windsor Palace Chinese Restaurant in Windsor. All four food outlets were stung with three on-the-spot fines each for a range of offences between 2018 and 2019.

A total of seven businesses in The Hills were issued on-the-spot fines by the NSW Food Authority and added to the Name and Shame list online, while 17 food outlets surrounding the Hornsby Shire were also issued with fines for breaching food safety laws.

In the Rouse Hill and Hawkesbury regions, a total of 14 businesses were issued fines.

NAME AND SHAME: THE HILLS BUSINESSES

Maharajas Lakeside Indian Restaurant in Baulkham Hills received a food safety penalty for “failing to maintain the food premises and all fixtures, fittings and equipment to the required standard of cleanliness”, which resulted in an $880 fine.

Wok On Inn Baulkham Hills was also hit with a fine when they failed to “maintain the food premises, fixtures, fittings, and equipment in a good state of repair and working order having regard to their use”.

Star Car Wash, Castle Hill received an on-the-spot fine for a failure to take all practicable measures to eradicate and prevent the harbourage of pests

Andaz Indian Castle Hill also received an on-the-spot fine for failing to maintain all fixtures, fittings and equipment to the required standard of cleanliness.

Northwest Growers, Castle Hill was hit with a fine for failing to take all practicable measures to eradicate and prevent the harbourage of pests.

Midori Japanese Cuisine, Castle Hill made the list for failure to maintain the food premises to the required standard of cleanliness.

Hura Healthy Sushi, Cherrybrook was issued two penalties during the past two years, including one for failure to ensure food contact surfaces of equipment is in a clean and sanitary condition and another for failure to display potentially hazardous food under temperature control.

NAME AND SHAME: HORNSBY AND UPPER NORTH SHORE BUSINESSES

Hot Star Friend Chicken in Hornsby was issued three on-the-spot fines during 2018 and 2019, including failing to maintain the food premises to the required standard of cleanliness, failing to ensure that persons undertaking or supervising food handling operations have skills and knowledge in food safety and food hygiene matters and also failing to ensure eating and drinking utensils is in a clean and sanitary condition.

Hungry Jacks Hornsby was also issued three fines including the sale of food that is unsuitable, failing to ensure that persons undertaking or supervising food handling operations have skills and knowledge in food safety and food hygiene matters and failing to maintain at or near each hand washing facility a supply of single use towels.

85 Degrees Coffee, Hornsby was issued two fines for a failure to maintain the food premises to the required standard of cleanliness and failing to ensure food contact surfaces of equipment is in a clean and sanitary condition.

Absolute Thai, Hornsby was fined for failing to ensure food contact surfaces of equipment is in a clean and sanitary condition.

Kang Nam BBQ, Hornsby was penalised for failing to maintain easily accessible hand washing facilities on the food premises — previous warning given.

Master Rolls, Hornsby failed to store potentially hazardous food under temperature control — previous warning given.

Pizza Hut Hornsby failed to maintain at or near each hand washing facility a supply of — warm running water and single use towels.

Seabay Kitchen, Hornsby failed to ensure that persons undertaking or supervising food handling operations have skills and knowledge in food safety and food hygiene matters and also failed to maintain the food premises to the required standard of cleanliness.

Tim’s BBQ Kitchen, Hornsby failed to store potentially hazardous food under temperature control.

Tokyo Ramen, Hornsby failed to take all practicable measures to process only safe and suitable food and failed to ensure that persons undertaking or supervising food handling operations have skills and knowledge in food safety and food hygiene matters.

Yongxing Asian Supermarket, Hornsby failed to store potentially hazardous food under temperature control.

Sushi Square, Beecroft failed to, when processing food, take all necessary steps to prevent the likelihood of food being contaminated and also failed to display potentially hazardous food under temperature control.

Istana Malaysian Restaurant Thornleigh failed to maintain all fixtures, fittings and equipment to the required standard of cleanliness and failed to store food in such a way that it is protected from the likelihood of contamination.

Lee Chinese Restaurant, Thornleigh failed to display potentially hazardous food under temperature control.

Roastery Sydney Turramurra failed to display potentially hazardous food under temperature control.

Lime Thai, Waitara failed to store potentially hazardous food under temperature control.

NAME AND SHAME: ROUSE HILL, BLACKTOW N AND HAWKESBURY BUSINESSES

Sushi Hub Richmond failed to display potentially hazardous food under temperature control, failed to maintain easily accessible hand washing facilities on the food premises and failed to ensure that persons undertaking or supervising food handling operations have skills and knowledge in food safety and food hygiene matters.

Westlake Restaurant, Vineyard was hit with a fine for failing to take all practicable measures to eradicate and prevent the harbourage of pests and failure to maintain the food premises to the required standard of cleanliness.

Yummy Cuisine Chinese Restaurant North Richmond failed to maintain the food premises to the required standard of cleanliness and failure to maintain all fixtures, fittings and equipment to the required standard of cleanliness.
