A fire which ripped through a home in North Kellyville on Saturday evening has resulted in about $450,000 in damage and seen four people treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.

The occupants of the home reportedly did not realise their Wattleridge Cres house was on fire until a passer-by knocked on the door to alert them about 6.30pm.

There were reportedly five people in the home when the fire started including a couple, their two boys and the woman’s father.

They all managed to evacuate before emergency services arrived.

NSW Ambulance said four people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation including two men and two boys.

The owner of the home, who did not want to be named, thanked the community on Facebook for all the support following the fire. He said they had found a place to stay short term.

“Appreciate all the efforts and assistance of all involved. Everyone who attended were sympathetic, compassionate and kind,” he posted on Sunday.

“The local Kellyville and greater Hills District communities have reached out with an overwhelming show of support, but at this time we are just getting the basics sorted out.”

The owner said he did have insurance.

Police said the fire might have been caused by an electrical fault in the garage and it resulted in about $450,000 in damage.

Rural Fire Service NSW and Fire and Rescue NSW both attended and managed to put out the blaze.

One neighbour said it took about 30 minutes for them to extinguish the flames.

Despite the large fire, the homes next door did not appear to be damaged.

A Wattleridge Cres resident, who did not want to be named, said plenty of neighbours came outside to see what was happening.

She said it was scary to witness and she spoke with the woman who came outside the home.

“I asked if she was alright and if she has family to stay with.

“She said she was okay and that she had family.”

She said another neighbour took the family inside their home after the incident.

“I’m glad they came out and there was no injuries. I hope everything works out and that they have insurance.”

The owner of the home told 9 News that he was in the bath with his son when the fire started and his wife was asleep.
