TWO new suburbs have been given the tick of approval, following an ongoing tussle between residents, The Hills Shire Council and the Geographical Names Board.

Norwest and North Kellyville are the newest suburbs to join 25 established suburbs in The Hills.

New suburb lines and names were approved by the NSW Government this week.

Boundaries of Kellyville, Baulkham Hills and Bella Vista were realigned as part of the process. Some residents of Kellyville and Baulkham Hills will now find themselves living in Norwest, while homes north of Balmoral Rd, Kellyville will become part of Bella Vista.

Wayne Robertson is one of those residents who has undergone a change of address from Kellyville to Norwest.

He said the community supported the name change.

“Kellyville was just too big, it had to be cut up into smaller suburbs to manage it properly,” he said.

Mr Robertson, his wife Heather and their two children live in a newly developed residential precinct, neighbouring high and medium density development in Norwest.

“Our precinct being included in the new Norwest suburb will only increase the value of our property,” he said.

“Being in a new suburb, with a soon-to-be-opened metro station, means that we will get more pieces of the pie when it comes to local infrastructure — so that can only be a good thing.”

The approval also makes way for the official naming of North Kellyville for residents north of Samantha Riley Dr.

In September last year residents and The Hills Shire Council battled to prevent the suburb being named Kellyville North, despite proposals from the Geographical Names Board.

Hills mayor Michelle Byrne said the gazettal was a growth milestone.

“To embrace growth, manage growth and plan for growth — new suburbs were ultimately created to reflect this,” she said.

“It also reinforces that North Kellyville and Norwest are their own distinct communities.”

Property owners affected by these changes will receive a letter from the council.

Post codes will mostly remain the same.

Norwest is now its own suburb.
