Mark Geggo, 25, appeared in Windsor Local Court where he was sentenced to a nine months community correctional order after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of cocaine.

Agreed police facts tendered to the court state Geggo was apprehended by police after his car collided with a street sign on Lennox St, Richmond about 11.25pm on July 25.

Geggo’s lawyer said his client had been off the roads for three months due to his bail conditions, causing hardship in both his employment and relationship.

He said Geggo was eager to finalise the matter so he could return to driving as soon as possible.

However Magistrate Leanne Robinson said his driving record was “not good” and suspended his driving licence for a further twelve months.

Ms Robinson said Geggo got behind the wheel in a “dangerous condition” and the fact he collided into a sign demonstrates “just how out of control things were that night”.

The court heard Geggo viewed the incident as a “catalyst for change” and has since stopped using illegal drugs and started attending a substance abuse program which he ‘fully intended to continue’.

Geggo is still facing charges of drug supply, drug possession, refusing to submit to a blood test and possessing unlawfully obtained goods pertaining to $1340 cash.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The charges will return to court for a hearing on July 23 next year.
