Mark Geggo: Box Hill mechanic charged with cocaine supply

A mechanic has been charged with drug supply and driving under the influence of cocaine following a late night smash in the Hawkesbury region.

Sydney's cocaine crisis

A Hills Shire mechanic has denied supplying cocaine after police found drugs in his car following a collision with a street sign.

Mark Geggo, 25, has been charged with indictable drug supply, prohibited drug possession, driving under the influence of cocaine, refusing to submit to a blood test and possessing unlawfully obtained goods pertaining to $1340 cash.

The Box Hill mechanic was apprehended by police after his car collided with a street sign on Lennox St, Richmond about 11.25pm on July 25.

Police will allege there was 12.5g of cocaine and $1340 cash suspected of being stolen or unlawfully obtained in the vehicle, and that Geggo subsequently refused blood and urine analysis at Hawkesbury Hospital after the smash.

Geggo has pleaded not guilty to the supply, possession, blood test and unlawfully obtained goods charges and will defend them at a hearing at Windsor Local Court on July 5 next year.

At Windsor Local Court on September 29, Geggo pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of cocaine through his lawyer Chaddy Mardini, who acknowledged the “minor” collision with the street sign.

The court heard Geggo’s licence had been suspended by police in relation to that charge and he wished to finalise it as quickly as possible so he could return to driving at the earliest opportunity.

He will be sentenced for that charge at the same court on October 29.

Mr Mardini also sought to vary Geggo’s bail ahead of his next court appearance, telling Magistrate Leanne Robinson his client’s 6pm curfew had been particularly onerous since his arrest.

Geggo was released on bail after appearing at Parramatta Bail Court in July on conditions he report to police three times a week, not occupy the driver’s seat of a car, abstain from drugs and abide by a curfew between 6pm and 8am.

“It’s not that he’s alleged to have been a drug runner, or a dial a dealer committing offences at night,” Mr Mardini told the court.

“It is simply that he was detected at night-time – it’s distinct from someone caught in the Sydney CBD with drugs where there is more of a market for that type of drug.”

Mr Mardini submitted a curfew was not necessary to ensure Geggo would be of good behaviour while he remains on bail.

The court also heard Geggo’s partner has had to drive him to and from work at an auto workshop in Minchinbury as a result of his licence suspension, causing additional hardship.

Ms Robinson agreed to vary Geggo’s curfew to begin at 10pm instead of 8pm and adjourned the matters for their respective sentence and hearing.
