Vibrant glass panels inspired by The Hills district’s orchards have been installed at Kellyville train station as part of the Sydney Metro Northwest project.
More than 400 distinctive clear and coloured glass panels, each weighing 150kg, were lifted into place on Saturday.
The largest panels were each more than 2m tall and 2m wide while the smallest were just 72cm wide.
The colour scheme was inspired by The Hills’ orchards and the glass wall design allows
natural light into the concourse area, beneath the Skytrain.
Strengthened steel frames hold in place the glass, which is strong enough to withstand
hail storms and heavy winds.
It took up to 20 minutes to lift each glass panel into place.
The station’s platforms are suspended 13m above ground has 1360 commuter carparking spaces, parking and storage for 55 bicycles, 10 kiss-and-ride spaces and four bus bays.
Sydney Metro services start in the second quarter of next year.
Last month, the 80m long pedestrian bridge, to link commuters from the station to the Riley T-way bus stop, was installed over Old Windsor Rd.
Sydney Metro services start in the second quarter of 2019 and extend into the CBD and Bankstown in 2024.
