Major bus changes by NSW Government to Sydney Metro stations

Major bus changes are about to roll out across The Hills with dozens of new services and several others cancelled as the NSW Government work out the best routes for commuters to access the Sydney Metro northwest.

Residents across The Hills have received a public transport lifeline from NSW Government, following the announcement of increased bus services from neighbourhoods to Sydney Metro stations.

A growing campaign by the North Kellyville Advocacy Group, which was calling for the implementation of on-demand bus services to Kellyville, Rouse Hill and Beaumont Hills after the completion of the new Metro network, has been answered by Transport for NSW with thousands of new bus services to be rolled out on July 28.

A Transport for NSW Spokesman said the changes to the bus services across Sydney’s north west were designed to increase the frequency of service to stations, shopping and medical precincts.

One of the major changes to current services will see the introduction of a bus along the entire length of Foxall Rd, between Withers Rd and Samantha Riley Drive North Kellyville, as well as Arnold Ave Kellyville.

“This will include new and enhanced services to connect customers to the Metro in areas like Rouse Hill, Kellyville, Bella Vista and Castle Hill throughout the day as well some growing residential precincts receiving bus services for the first time,” Transport for NSW co-ordinator general Marg Prendergast said.

“Customers from some locations in the North West travelling to Macquarie Park, North Sydney or the Sydney CBD may need to travel by local bus to a Metro station to complete their journey.”

M2 services will also continue to run between The Hills, Macquarie Park, North Sydney and the Sydney CBD, however, buses to Chatswood will be reduced.

North Kellyville Advocacy Group member Ming Lau said the new services were a lifeline for residents in his community.

“It will now give our residents more options to get around and utilise the Metro, especially for the residents on Foxall Rd,” he said.

“They no longer need to travel on a road that doesn’t have footpaths and wait for a bus on Hezlett Rd.”

Mr Lau, who started a petition after the NSW Government refused to install on-demand services to North Kellyville last month, said if the community was satisfied with the services an on-demand system may not be required.

Kellyville, Rouse Hill and Stanhope Gardens residents have raised concerns about crowded buses and extended journeys on Hillsbus services to the city for several years.

Castle Hill state Liberal MP Ray Williams said the lifeline in The Hills was part of 1800 new services scheduled to roll out on July 28.

“Better connectivity means more people on buses and the Sydney Metro northwest, which equals less cars on our roads,” he said.

“So many people have already recognised the reduced traffic on local and arterial roads, including the M2, following the opening of the metro.”

Customers will be able to go online at transportnsw.info to plan their journeys from July 14.
