The state planning panel is set to make a decision on a multi-million dollar early learning centre slated for a residential street in Sydney’s north-west.
The $7 million Arendale Early Learning Centre comes under the umbrella of the Kindalin Early Learning Centre group and is earmarked for 8-12 Poole Rd, Kellyville.
The site currently features a house with a garage and shed.
Kindalin has seven early learning centres in The Hills district already and owner Mark Wharton said there is demand for another centre in the area.
“We have a lot of families that know us and so we are proposing another one for that Kellyville area that we know has a demand for it,” he said.
“We are constantly being asked to build more centres and we see it as a good opportunity to serve the community.”
The site is surrounded by residential development, primarily in the form of one to two-storey houses and Hills Shire Council has received 26 submissions against the proposal.
The main issues cited in the submissions were around noise, traffic and that the development does not fit the character of the location.
But Mr Wharton said plans have been adapted to address community concerns.
“The design of the centre is that noise will be internal not external but still presenting a terrific centre for the children,” he said.
“All the parking is underneath, the building is low rise and we have extensive planting and landscaping to fit the area.”
The two-storey building will include a car park in the basement with 44 car spaces and can fit 134 children.
The plan is for 24 children 0-2yrs, 30 children 2-3yrs and 40 children 4-5yr.
A decision will be made by the Sydney City Planning Panel on June 18.
