Police officers arrested a man who they allege was in the process of breaking into a cafe, blaming him for a string of break ins across cafes and restaurants across northwest Sydney in an alleged month long crime spree.
On Monday, Blacktown man Jason Daniel Marsh, 34, fronted Parramatta Local Court after being charged with sixteen counts of break and enter following the dramatic early morning arrest.
Police allege between October 13 and November 28 Marsh broke, entered and stole from at least 16 cafes and restaurants stretching across northwest Sydney — from the Hills Shire to Parramatta, Blacktown to Riverstone.
After a joint investigation between Hills Shire, Parramatta, Riverstone and Blacktown police officers, led by Castle Hill’s Sergeant Luvpuddin, the 34-year-old Blacktown man was arrested at 5am on Monday November 28.
Police allege at the time of the arrest Marsh was in the process of breaking into a cafe on George St, Parramatta.
Marsh was taken to Castle Hill police station before arriving at Parramatta Local Court where he did not apply for bail.
Police officers also executed a search warrant on Marsh’s home at Dan Ave, Blacktown, on Monday morning.
A police spokesman said the arrest was the result of adjoining police stations combining resources and working together.
“Sometimes you can’t rely just on DNA, fingerprints or CCTV,” he said.
“You need to talk to people and have police working in the right place at the right time.”
Marsh will return to court on January 19, 2023.
