Cricketer convicted for breaking player’s face with bat at Castle Hill

An indoor cricketer who used the butt of his cricket bat to break an opponent’s cheek bone during a heated game in Castle Hill has been convicted and ordered to complete 200 hours of community service work.

An indoor cricketer who used the butt of his cricket bat to break an opponent’s cheek bone during a heated game in Castle Hill has been convicted and ordered to complete 200 hours of community service work.

Brodie Jake Langdon, 23, from Kellyville Ridge, was playing for a team called the Angry Pirates during the ugly incident last October.

The labourer was sentenced today at Parramatta Local Court for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was convicted and sentenced to a community correction order for 18 months, ordered to complete 200 hours community service work and fined $1000.

Police facts stated about 7.45pm on Monday, October 29, the victim and another player “started banter” during a game of cricket at the indoor venue before pushing their chests into each other.

Mr Langdon became involved and struck the victim with his cricket bat, later telling police “he needed to learn his lesson” and that he was defending his friend.

“The accused held the cricket bat in his hand and struck the victim’s face with the butt of the cricket bat,” police facts read.

CCTV footage captured the incident which showed Mr Langdon use the bat like a spear.

Players from both teams rushed over to check on the victim and Mr Langdon left the venue, driving off in his ute.

The victim was taken to hospital and suffered multiple fractures to his cheek. His injury also impacted his ability to work.

Police arrested Mr Langdon at his home in November and also seized his Slazenger cricket bat. He told police he had not intended to hit the victim in the face.

“The accused stated he intended to strike the victim in the shoulder however missed and struck him in his face,” police facts read. “The accused stated ‘he needed to learn his lesson’.”
