Carlingford: Man hit by bus first pedestrian fatality in NSW for 2019

An elderly man died after being hit by a bus while crossing the road in Carlingford on Sunday night — the first pedestrian fatality this year in NSW.

An elderly man died after being hit by a bus while crossing the road at Carlingford on Sunday night — the first pedestrian death this year in NSW.

Emergency services were called to the crash site at the corner of Coleman Ave and Pennant Hills Rd just after 7pm.

Witnesses told police the 70-year-old North Rocks man was hit by a bus while crossing the road.

A nurse at the scene gave the man first aide while waiting for emergency services.

However, the man was unresponsive when emergency services arrived and he died at the scene.

The driver of the public bus, a 37-year-old man, was not injured and was taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing. The Crash Investigation Unit is continuing inquiries.

A Transport for NSW spokesman said a senior manager was sent to the scene to assist the driver and customers who were impacted by the crash.

“Transport for NSW and the bus operator have been in touch with customers, staff and others affected by this tragedy, including a nurse who rendered first aid at the scene,” he said.

“The bus company sent a senior manager to the incident to help attend to the driver’s needs and to provide assistance to customers.”

Flowers were left at the corner of the intersection on Monday morning.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
