A HILLS community group now has its very own beer, thanks to the crafty talents of local bar Crooked Tailor.
The Castle Hill venue approached Beer Buddy, a men’s social group, with the idea of creating a special brew and the answer was a resounding yes.
Alyce Schlothauer, from Crooked Tailor’s parent company House of Pocket, said she “loved the idea behind the Beer Buddy group”.
“We’ve always wanted to make our own beer and when we saw an article in the Hills Shire Times about a local community group who was based around meeting up over beers – we had to reach out,” she said.
A competition was held to find the face of the beer, with Beer Buddy members pulling their most ‘Game of Thrones’ style pose for a chance to feature on the label.
“What’s more befitting a Beer Buddy than a Beer Throne?,” Ms Schlothauer said.
Beer Buddy founder Josh Fordham was the winner, with his face featuring on the labels.
“He suits that throne,” Ms Schlothauer said.
Mr Fordham said the “thought that people will be drinking out of my face is a little daunting”.
“Still, the more you drink, the better I look, I guess,” he said.
As for the beer itself – a golden pale ale – Mr Fordham said it was “very enjoyable”.
The beer was officially launched at Crooked Tailor in Castle Hill on Saturday, September 10.
House of Pocket’s Ben Burch, who helped brew the beer at Six Strings Brewery in Erina, said the beer was made using an Australian summer hop as well as American cascade hops.
“The end result is a beer with a mild malt profile bolstered by nice grapefruit and passion fruit flavours through the mid-palate,” he said.
Pick up a can of the Beer Buddy Brew for $8.50 at Crooked Tailor, 250 Old Northern Rd, Castle Hill. Crooked Tailor is open Monday — Sunday, 4pm — midnight.
