Three men who allegedly sold drugs on the darknet in exchange for cryptocurrency have been charged after detectives arrested them in a quiet suburban street in Bella Vista.
Police allege the trio has actively been involved in the operation of a darknet vendor account responsible for the supply of crystal methylamphetamine and cocaine in exchange for cryptocurrency since October 2023.
Strike Force Cyans detectives arrested the men in a car on Francesco Drive on Thursday about 3.30pm after an investigation was formed in October to investigate the supply of drugs on the dark web.
A darknet marketplace is a commercial website and operates as a black market for selling or brokering transactions involving such as drugs, firearms and fraudulent documents.
The men – two aged 25 and one aged 27 – were taken to Riverstone police station.
From 4.30pm, detectives searched three homes at Toongabbie, Bella Vista and Glenwood where they seized prohibited drugs, drug paraphernalia, a car, cryptocurrency wallets and electronics.
The 27-year-old man, Mathurshan Sangarathasan, was charged with 17 drug-supply related offences, including supplying prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis and participating in a criminal group.
A 25-year-old Bella Vista man, Mayuran Devakumar, was charged with 12 drug-supply related offences, including supplying a prohibited drug (greater than a large commercial quantity) and knowingly directing a criminal group.
The other 25-year-old, Harpeet Flora, was charged with two counts of taking part in supplying a prohibited drug (greater than an indictable commercial quantity) and participating in a criminal group.
The three men were refused bail to appear in Blacktown Court on Friday.
Devakumar and Sangarathasan were again refused bail.
Devakumar will next appear at Penrith Local Court on May 31. Sangarathasan will appear at Blacktown Court on April 18.
Harpreet was granted bail on a $10,000 surety and will next appear in court on April 18.
He must report to Hills police daily, surrender his passport, not leave home unless for a medical emergency or use a smart phone or electronic device with internet capability.
