A few years ago Belinda Nadwie set herself a goal: to get her artwork on The Block.

This week her dream came true with not just one but three of her paintings used on the latest season of the renovations show.

The reality series follows five couples as they transform a property, delivering a room each week to be scored by judges Neale Whitaker, Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer.

Nadwie happened to be on her way to a talk by Whitaker when she received a call to say her artwork had been chosen by contestants Mel and Jesse to be used in their rooms through The Block’s art supplier, Art Lovers Australia.

A week later the Galston artist received another phone call to say two more paintings had been selected by the pair.

“I just about fell off my seat, I actually cried when I got the second call,” she said.

Nadwie has been painting all her life as a hobby but began focusing on art full time four years ago, after the birth of her third child.

“I’ve always painted while I did other jobs and things but I was always drawn back to it,” she said.

When it came time to return to work, her husband asked her what she would pick if she could choose one thing to do every day.

So she turned her attention to painting full time and has spent the past few years growing her profile, something that will continue after her colourful, abstract expressionist work were beamed through televisions into homes across the country on Sunday night.

Nadwie said having her work used on The Block “takes everything up a notch”.

“I just think that for an emerging artist it’s like validation that yes, what you’re doing is right, you’re on the right track,” she said.
