A Sydney hairdresser is set to face court in April over 16 allegations of sexual misconduct, stretching across a 40 year period – from 1981 to 2021.
In February of this year, The Hills Shire Times reported the now 69-year-old Anthony Castelnuovo, known as “Cass” by his clients, faces 15 charges of alleged sexual touching and assault stretching over a 40 year time span.
Now, Castelnuovo faces a fresh charge of sexually assaulting a minor, with police alleging he rubbed his penis on the victim’s body at Wentworthville in 1981.
The new charge, listed before Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday, is alleged to have taken place at a different location from that of the previous 15 charges — the previous allegations of sexual misconduct all occurred in Asquith.
The fresh allegation comes on top of Castelnuovo’s 15 previous charges of sexual assault and touching. No pleas have yet been entered.
The matter will return to court in April.
EARLIER:
A Sydney hairdresser is set to face court later this month over 15 allegations of sexual misconduct, stretching across a 40 year period — from 1981 to 2021.
In December of last year, The Hills Shire Times reported the now 69-year-old hairdresser, known as “Cass” by his clients, faces multiple charges of sexual touching and assault following a police investigation into alleged sexual misconduct at his hairdressing salon, Vision Hair Team Asquith.
Now, Castelnuovo faces three additional charges of indecent assault, which involve touching and kissing multiple women.
Police will allege Castelnuovo preyed upon these women over many years — with the first new charge of indecent assault allegedly occurring in 1991 and the most recent in 2018.
These fresh allegations come on top of Castelnuovo’s 12 previous charges of sexual misconduct.
Police will allege Castelnuovo first committed an act of indecent sexual assault in 1981 and continued his litany of sexual offences over a 40 year span — until November of last year.
Castelnuovo is yet to enter a plea to these 15 charges, which include nine counts of sexually touching women without their consent, four counts of indecent assault, and one count of sexual assault and touching.
Police will further allege Castelnuovo sexually touched a child, aged between 10 and 16 years, in May of last year.
Castelnuovo was granted strict conditional bail on November 19.
As previously reported, part of the bail conditions include police orders for Castelnuovo to stay away from the complainants and he “must not be alone in the company of young people under the age of 18 in (his) hairdressing salon.”
The case was briefly mentioned on February 2 at Hornsby Local Court.
Castelnuovo’s bail will continue as prosecutor’s await for a brief from the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case was adjourned with Castelnuovo due to return to the same court on February 23, 2022.
