Alleged stabbing at Hills Shire Council-run facilities prompt review of hiring processes

THE Hills Shire Council is reviewing its venue hire procedures after a teenager was allegedly stabbed at a party at Box Hill Nelson Community Centre.
Police allege a brawl broke out at the Nelson Rd community centre just after midnight on Sunday.
During the scuffle at the supervised birthday party, a 17-year-old Kingswood boy was allegedly stabbed.
He was rushed to Blacktown Hospital before he was transferred to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Police said the teenager underwent surgery for a wound to his abdomen.
There were more than 100 people at the party hall during the fight, with officers from The Hills, Quakers Hill, Mt Druitt and the riot squad responding to the incident.
A 17-year-old Kellyville boy was charged with wounding to intent and granted conditional bail to front court on September 29.
It is the second incident at a Hills Shire Council-run community centre in the past month after two people were stabbed outside Rouse Hill Community Centre on Friday, August 5.
Emergency services were called to the Clower Ave hall after a 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were stabbed with broken bottles after a fight erupted.
There were 150 people at the venue at the time.
Four men were arrested but were later released without charge.
A council spokeswoman said it was working closely with police investigating the incidents.
“Council is working closely with the Local Area Command and is reviewing procedures around venue hire for events such as this,” she said. “It should be noted that both the hirer and the council had security present at the (Box Hill) event.”
