Four people have been cut free from the wreckage of a multi-vehicle crash in Sydney’s south west, with one truck catching on fire.

The incident took place just before 12pm when a cement mixer collided with two cars and a pantech truck, and flipped onto its side on Widemere Rd in Wetherill Park.

Technical rescue firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) “worked rapidly” using hydraulic tools and ladders to remove two people from the pantech truck after it caught on fire.

Crews also had to cut the truck door to extinguish the blaze and disconnect battery circuits.

Another car needed to have its roof cut to allow a person to get out.

NSW Police were also in attendance assisting firefighters with rescue efforts.

By 1pm, all four people had been freed from the wreckage.

Altogether at the scene, FRNSW responded with two hazard materials response trucks, three fire trucks, two rescue trucks and one technical rescue truck.

Once freed from the wreckage, all six people were treated and transported by NSW Ambulance paramedics to hospital.

Diesel and coolant spills were cleaned up on the Prospect Highway which was blocked in both directions for a few hours after the crash.
