SYDNEY Kings guard and southwest Sydney local, Jason Cadee, said this NBL season feels as exciting for him as his first season with the Kings three years ago.
With their new address at Qudos Bank Arena, complete with huge state-of-the-art super cluster of video screens and imported Canadian Maple wood flooring, the Sydney Kings have spared no expense to raise the bar on what will be an incredible season of basketball.
Cadee spoke about what it was like to come from humble roots of the southwest to now play for the Sydney Kings.
“I’m proud to come from the southwest,” he said.
“I grew up in the Liverpool area, went to school at Westfield High and my first ever basketball team was Bankstown so I have really strong connections to the southwest. It’s all I ever knew as a kid.”
Qudos Bank Arena is now the official home of the Sydney Kings and also home to one of the biggest indoor scoreboards in the Southern Hemisphere, which will be on display Saturday October 8 for the season opener between Sydney Kings and the Brisbane Bullets.
At the Kings season launch, Managing Director Jeff Van Groningen said Saturday’s game was going to be entertaining with some surprises in store during the family-focused night.
“We have a few tricks up our sleeve,” he said.
Local star Jason Cadee and Aleks Maric were recently appointed to the Sydney Kings leadership group to back up captain Kevin Lisch.
“This year has a bit more excitement to it, with what they’ve done with the arena and the team itself, it’s going to be an incredible year for the Sydney Kings,” Cadee said.
“I’m really honoured to be selected with Aleks to take on a leadership role in the team and with Kevin Lisch as our captain I think this season is going to be ours.”
Speaking of what it takes to grow up in Sydney’s southwest and become a top athlete in the city, Cadee said it was all about loving what you do.
“As long as you’re enjoying yourself, the more you do, the better you’ll get at it. And as you’re enjoying it and pursuing what you want to do, eventually it will come,” he said.
A crowd of nearly 10,000 is expected but tickets are still available for the game on Saturday, with entertainment starting from 5pm.
