Quiet Canley Heights street gets another plan for big apartments
Developers are planning to move into a quiet residential street in Canley Heights, with a third lodging an application for a six-storey apartment complex.
- Canley Heights homes could make way for 80 units
- Residents join forces for real estate windfall of $1.9m each
Developers are planning to move into a quiet residential street at Canley Heights.
Three development applications for six-storey apartment complexes have been proposed for Ascot St — the third just being filed.
One application has already been approved. The apartment complex approved for 20 to 24 Ascot St will stand six-storeys and offer 51 units.
Another application was exhibited in November last year. This one, for 27 to 33 Ascot St, also proposed a six-storey complex, though with 80 units.
Now, a third apartment complex has been proposed for 19 to 25 Ascot St. This one is currently on public exhibition, would stand six-storeys and house 78 units.
The development application — submitted by Urbanlink Pty ltd — proposes demolishing four houses. Three of the homes — 19, 21 and 23 — sold for $1.95 million each in September 2017.
The fourth house, number 25, sold for $1.73 million about a year later.
In addition to the $7.58 million spent on the four properties, developers would invest a further $21.3 million on the complex’s construction.
The 78-unit complex would be built on a 2959 square metre property. About 63 of the units would offer two bedrooms, while the remaining 15 would offer one-bedroom units, planning documents reveal.
All three properties proposed for Ascot St would offer basement carparks. The carpark for this proposal would have 102 car spaces in total; 82 would go to residents, with the remaining 20 allocated for visitors.
Ascot St leads into the town centre of Canley Heights. It’s a quiet street characterised by single- and double-storey housing, however it has been rezoned for high density residential apartments.
