NSW Central West: Mengorng Sreng charged with drug offences

An eighth person has been charged over the alleged cultivation and supply of cannabis across NSW after nearly $10 million worth of the drug was found in the state’s Central West.

A 36-year-old man has become the eighth person to be charged after nearly $10 million worth of cannabis was allegedly seized in the state’s Central West last month.

Strike Force Emerstan detectives allegedly uncovered and seized more than 2440 cannabis plants and 427kg of dried cannabis with an estimated potential street value of more than $9.6 million at a property in Ballimore, near Dubbo, last month.

Five men and two women were arrested and charged. They remain before the courts.

On Thursday, investigators arrested Mengorng Sreng at Cabramatta Police Station and charged him with cultivate prohibited plant (large commercial quantity), supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity), participate criminal group contribute criminal activity and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

Police allege the 36-year-old, from Miller, was involved in the large-scale cultivation and supply of cannabis across NSW.

Mr Sreng was not required to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Friday, where he did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

The matter was adjourned to July 15 at Dubbo Local Court.

Investigations continue.

Seven other people, five men, aged 26, 40, 42, 45 and 52, and two women, aged 34 and 59, have been arrested and charged with cultivate prohibited plant (large commercial quantity cannabis), supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity) and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

The 26-year-old man was also charged with possess prohibited drug.
