Facts state Hosea placed both his hands up in a boxing stance as the driver approached him and told him, “you hit my mirror I’m going to call the police”.

As the men came face-to-face Hosea punched the man in the jaw with his left hand, then followed it with a punch with his right fist which saw the victim fall backwards.

Court documents state the victim suffered serious pain to his jaw, cuts to his mouth which saw him “bleed profusely” and a grazed elbow.

Hosea was taken to Fairfield Police Station where he told police he acted in self defence. When officers asked why he injured the victim, Hosea said: “I don’t know it was instinct”.

Hosea’s lawyer said his client admitted he “couldn’t provide an explanation” to the “angst” on the road.

The court heard it was a period of “heightened emotions” for Hosea, with Magistrate Brett Shields telling the 41-year-old he “can’t just get out of your car and punch someone, it’s that simple”.

“This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated, there are too many people with stupidity on the road,” he said.

Hosea was convicted and sentenced to a two-year community correction order.
