Almost 1000 jobs will be up for grabs after NSW Planning hit the green light on a massive Western Sydney industrial precinct, which is expected to feature supermarket giant Coles’ home distribution centre.

Planning Department executive director Anthea Sargeant told NewsLocal the approval of the western Sydney jobs provider at the Horsley Drive Business Park will fund the expansion and management of the Western Sydney Parklands.

Plans for an iconic new walk in Western Sydney Parklands with views from the Blue Mountains to the CBD and showcasing some of NSW’s most beautiful bush and natural beauty is set to open next year. The 12-kilometre walk will start adjacent to Middleton Grange in the Liverpool area of the Western Sydney Parklands and wind north to Cecil Hills.

“This approval is a huge win for the people of Western Sydney with the creation of 950 new jobs and revenue going straight into the Parklands,” Ms Sargeant said.

“Horsley Drive Business Park is one of nine existing or upcoming business parks located on the periphery of the Western Sydney Parklands that together make up 2 per cent of the Parklands to fund the remaining 98 per cent.

“By activating vacant land with low recreational and ecological value, we can create, improve and manage new recreation facilities and cycling and walking tracks, regenerate bushland and improve wildlife movement across Western Sydney.”

Coles will see a major distribution centre developed at the site, joining Martin Brower, Nick

Scali, Royal Comfort Bedding, Survitec Group and Vivin Imports.

A NSW Planning spokeswoman said construction is set to begin on the landmark industrial precinct in September.
