The fate of a billion-dollar vision to revolutionise the Blacktown CBD into a bustling university town has been decided by the State Government, with Planning Minister Rob Stokes green lighting the project.
NewsLocal can exclusively revealed the major planning proposal by Blacktown Council, which is one of a raft of major developments fast-tracked by NSW Planning this week, will result in a massive transformation in the western Sydney skyline.
The plan reveals blueprints for high-rise commercial and residential precincts to accommodate 4800 new dwellings and 2230 jobs.
Mr Stokes said the approval would result in “well-designed buildings, high-quality public spaces, and better cycling and pedestrian connection that make it easier to move about”.
He also revealed blueprints for the rezoning of Wentworthville Town Centre was approved under the fast-track scheme, generating a further 2500 homes in the CBD.
“Wentworthville will become more liveable with greener pedestrian connections and a new linear plaza on Dunmore St linked to the library and civic hub,” he said. “While Blacktown will transform into a bustling centre with better streetscapes and vibrant mix of shops and businesses along Warrick Lane.”
The approval of the Blacktown Council planning proposal, originally submitted to the department in 2016 will see the Australian Catholic University embedded into the heart of the Blacktown CBD, with a series of high-rise university towers.
The state government’s approval of the Blacktown CBD and Wentworthville Town Centre rezonings will pave the way for 7,300 new homes, unlock new commercial floor space that could accommodate up to 17,650 new jobs and provide an economic boost of more than $1.7 billion for Western Sydney.
