Investigators from both Fire and Rescue and NSW Police examined the damage to determine the cause of the fire. Their cursory findings suggest foul play.

“The fire is being treated as suspicious,” a spokeswoman from NSW Police said. “Investigations are continuing.”

Uniformed police officers returned to the crime scene on Monday.

They declined to answer questions, but acknowledged a search of the property was underway.

Five firefighting crews — from Busby, Liverpool, Smithfield, Chester Hill and Bonnyrigg Heights — worked from 11am to 1.45pm to put the fire out.

It caused extensive damage to the single-storey home, damaging its roof and charring its facade.
